Winter Fishing

Winter fishing in the Myrtle Beach area offers a lot of opportunity. The nearshore reefs and rock bottom areas provide the most productive fishing grounds for the winter months and the early spring. Black Sea Bass tend to bunch up in these areas and this tasty little fish is easily caught on everything from bucktails to cut bait. We have also seen some big Flounder and juvenile Grouper in these areas this winter as well. Spiny Dog Sharks are also easily caught on the reefs and rocks and can even be seen cruising on the surface. They will eat just about anything and are great fun to catch on light tackle.

The inshore waters typically get a little too cold but on a warm day the water temperature can raise just a degree or two and trigger the fish to bite. Redfish, Speckled Trout and Striped Bass are the most common catches this time of year in these waters.

If you are in the Myrtle Beach area this winter, give this great fishery a try, you will not be disappointed.
